Before you upgrade to the IBTS…

For most users, the IBTS upgrade will be “Plug and Roast”. But before you place your order, you’ll need to take a look at your Bullet R1’s Control PCB. Some users may need to solder a new connector, or to purchase a new Control PCB if they are unable to solder.

What to look for on your Bullet’s Control PCB: Extra Inputs

Our new IBTS system requires an additional input on the Control PCB for its fan. Most Control PCBs will already have an extra unused input on the right side of the PCB, but some will not.

Below are two images of the “Plug and Roast” Control PCBs that most of our users have:

Original Control PCB with additional connectors. Will require you to switch the connector pin (already included in IBTS upgrade kit). No need to solder. Plug and Roast.
Newest revision of the Control PCB, with connector for IBTS fan. No need to solder. Plug and Roast.

Again, if you have a Control PCB with an additional connector on the right side, as shown in the photos above, the IBTS upgrade is Plug and Roast.

Below is an example of a Control PCB without any connector for the IBTS fan:

Because these Control PCBs lack an extra connector, you have two choices:

1. You can solder the connector on yourself (or else find a friend to do it for you!) This is both the fastest and cheapest way to upgrade your Bullet R1. The upgrade kit already includes the extra connector, just in case you need it. But of course we understand that some customers may not want to do this themselves, particularly if they don’t have any soldering experience. Please understand that choosing to solder the connector does come with some risk — if you damage the Control PCB you will need to order a new one from us, and therefore may be without a working Bullet for a period of time. In this case it’s a good idea to make sure you know what you are doing, or else find someone who does.

2. You can also purchase a full V2 upgrade kit. Unfortunately, there is no stock left of the original Control PCBs, and the new ones are only compatible with Bullet R1 V2 boards. The good news is that these V2 boards are more powerful, and you will enjoy the best possible Bullet experience moving forward at a fraction of the cost of a new Bullet R1 V2.
